Catechist Certification
Fr. Israel wishes that everyone helping in the CCD Program obtain the Archdiocesan Catechist Certificate. To get the ACC you need to take the 5 classes.
El P. Israel desea que todos los que ayudamos en el programa de Catequesis podamos obtener el Certificado Arquidiocesano de Catequista. Para obtener el ACC tenemos que tomar los 5 cursos que se mencionan a continuacion
Catechist Certification is granted upon completion of 50 hours of formation in the following five areas:
La certificacion de Catequista se concede cuando cumplimos las 50 horas de formacion en las siguientes 5 areas:
1. Introduction to Sacred Scripture
This course will present a basic introduction to the Sacred Scriptures. A Catholic understanding of God’s self-revelation through Scripture and Tradition. It will examine the structure and content of the Old and New Testaments and the importance of each in
Christian life and catechesis. (Course also available Online)
2. The Profession of Faith: Creed
This course will lead the learner to an understanding of the Creed as the core theological source of catechesis. It will examine the development and the church’s understanding of the nature of God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as well as other important concepts of our Christian Catholic Faith. (Course also available Online)
3. Liturgy and Sacraments
This course invites the participant to examine, understand and appreciate the liturgy of the Church as it is celebrated through the Sacraments and prayer. Special attention will be given to the Sacraments as signs of God’s grace and as a response to God’s call to a rich life in the Catholic community. (Course is also available Online)
4. Catholic Morality: Life in Christ
This course invites the catechist into a loving relationship with God in Christ. It will present the dignity of the person, the moral responsibility conferred on us by God’s gift of freedom, the process of conscience formation, the social teaching of the church and the personal and social responsibility to live in justice as members of the Catholic Christian community and stewards of God’s creation. (Course also available Online)
5. The Ministry of Catechesis
This course is designed to promote the mission and vision of catechesis. It will examine the vocation of the catechist and the qualities and skills needed to be a catechist. The participant will be introduced to psychological elements of human and faith development,
and the methods of catechizing according to the stages of faith development. The National Directory for Catechesis will be used as a backdrop to present catechetical praxis. (This class in only in person)
